The Ministry of Health invites you to submit an abstract for the Akirata Fono: Achieving Excellence in the Pacific Health Sector. To ensure you can be considered, submit your abstract by Wednesday 23 January 2008.
All authors will be advised of the outcome of the selection process by Wednesday 30 January 2008. Organisers will aim to include as many presentations as possible.
Themes
Achieving excellence in the Pacific health sector is vital to improving Pacific health outcomes. The different tools and approaches the sector is using to work towards better Pacific health and healthier lifestyles will frame the discussion at the Fono. Themes include:
- Creating linkages across the Pacific
- A strong Pacific health workforce
- Successful Pacific providers
- Responsive health services
- Church and community programmes
- Effective intersectoral action
We invite you to submit an abstract that reflects these themes and will enable others in the Pacific health sector to learn from your experiences on how to generate better health outcomes for Pacific peoples.
Submission Details:
Please use the web form below to register your interest in presenting at Akirata Fono, and then submit your abstract document as an attachment by email. Important requirements for the submission of abstracts:
Abstracts should be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc) format using the following guidelines:
- Title must be clear and concise
- All co-authors must be acknowledged
- Lead author’s name in bold and first in list of authors
- Maximum length of abstract text is 300 words

Talanoa Concept
The workshop sessions during the Fono will be run using the Talanoa concept to promote an open environment and stimulate discussion and debate. This concept will provide participants with an opportunity to share their views and experiences and discuss present and future challenges in Pacific Health.
